- The theme for the 2011-12 SMILE High school afterschool activities and Challenge Event was climate change, microbial oceanography, and oceans and human health. The Highschool Challenge event took place on April 12-13, 2012. Students were tasked with making webpages, videos and newspapers to communicate what they learned.

- Ted Strub and Amy Vandehey joined Sarah Mikulak at the NOAA/NANOOS booth during the Saltwater Sportman Show held March 31 - April 1, 2012 in Salem. Ted and Amy were interested in getting fishermen's feedback to improve products on the NANOOS website; particularly model fields of SST and surface currents provided by Alexander Kurapov (CIOSS/OSU). In addition, they wanted to gauge interest in possible future model products, such as convergence and divergence fields.

- Ted Strub and Amy Vandehey attended the Ocean Sciences meeting held in Salt Lake City, UT in February 2012. They presented a poster on fishermen's interactions with the NANOOS website and forecast model products developed by CIOSS scientists.
