- The 2008 Education and Research: Testing Hypotheses (EARTH) — MBARI/C-MORE/ASTEP Microbial Oceanography Teacher Workshop will be held in Corvallis on July 20-25, 2008. The focus for this year's workshop is on microbes and participants will be actively involved in creating lesson plans for their classrooms from the material presented. Highlights include a trip to the wave tank, Hatfield Marine Science Center and the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

- The 5th Annual Cooperative Research Program (CoRP) Symposium will take place August 12-13, 2008 at Gilfillan Auditorium on the Oregon State University campus. The theme for the Symposium is “Data-Model Fusion – Use of Satellite Data with in situ Data and Models,” covering everything from simple data-model comparisons to complex data assimilation.

- The annual SMILE Highschool Challenge was held April 17-18, 2008 at Western Oregon University and Oregon State University. The 13 SMILE highschool after school clubs gathered to participate in an intense 24 hour challenge that focused this year on tsunami awareness and preparedness. The teams prepared Public Service Announcements, including posters and short video presentations seen here. A Highschool Challenge narrative (pdf) can be found here.
